The Momentum Model
Momentum by definition is “the force that keeps an object moving or keeps an event developing after it has started.” From a scientific standpoint in physics momentum refers to the quantity of motion that an object has, or the study of an object in motion. For example, think back to when you were younger and you would take a bike ride around the neighborhood. What was the best part? That hill at the top of the neighborhood that you would peddle up just so you could glide back down with the wind in your hair. Why was this the best part? Because of the momentum you gained! Momentum is the key to things getting better.
Let’s take a look at sports for another example. Ever been watching a basketball game and your favorite team is down by ten points, with only a few minutes left. You and the team are probably feeling discouraged and down. All of a sudden one of the players from your team makes a 3 pointer. During the next play, a player from your team steals the ball from the opposing team and takes off to make a slam dunk. The crowd is on their feet, and your team looks more confident than ever! Things are really looking up. This is an example of how gaining momentum is so important and how it can turn things around and make them better.
This is why I named my model the Momentum Model. If you are looking for a change, and you want to turn things around then gaining momentum is the key. Momentum is by definition the force that keeps an object moving. If you want to keep things moving in a positive direction in youth ministry, you must gain and keep momentum

40/20 Are we using it?
Training
40/20 Rule
It is important to implement 40/20 at the beginning of every class. The purpose of the 40/20 time is to
1. Build relationships
2. Keep morale high
3. Build momentum
4. Deconstruct any negativity
4. Introduce a bible lesson, inspirational moment, or devo aka devotional.
Simply put 40/20 is just a break down of a average 60 minute class and it has been proven using the first 20 minutes of that time helps build momentum so the next 40 minutes will be even more productive. If your class time is less than 60 minutes, you can adjust this rule to fit your situation.
